We are a family-run tour operator specializing in off-the-beaten-path, Karen hilltribe style nature hikes in the scenic hills of northern Thailand. We’re dedicated to ethical tourism and sustainability. Our office is based in Chiang Mai, Thailand, and we look forward to taking you on your next adventure.
Ethnic Hilltribe Eco Trails started this company with a dream to allow people to experience hiking in the North with indiginous Karen people. We love our home, and want to give people a chance to experience real, authentic hiking trails, visit hilltribe villages, and experience the culture of northern Thailand hilltribes in the same intimate and personal way that we do.
Beyond leading off-the-beaten path journeys, we’re also passionate about sustainable tourism. We’ve seen first-hand how education and training can lift, not just families, but entire villages out of poverty, and we’re committed to providing tourism support and opportunities to our guides and partners. Let us introduce you to our hilltribe family and friends and show you the beauty of northern Thailand’s hills and rainforests.
Through our treks and hilltribe experiences, we strive to empower ethnic hilltribe and local families, just like ours, as well as their communities. We achieve this by guiding our guests on immersive journeys into the jungle, where they can enjoy authentic experiences that promote sustainable and ethical tourism. Our unwavering commitment is to give back to these indigenous families by exclusively collaborating with local drivers, guides, and porters. This approach not only strengthens the local economy but also fosters job creation and income generation for our Karen songtaew drivers. Moreover, our local guides and porters have the opportunity to undergo training with us, enabling them to acquire their tour guide licenses and further their professional growth.
In addition to our core initiatives, we have actively participated in the development of a family farmstay situated along the 2 Day Doi Inthanon Trail. This endeavor serves as a valuable source of support for the local Karen Hilltribe community, as we provide assistance through tourism and homestay training. By promoting this farmstay, we contribute to the creation of new employment opportunities and offer an alternative income stream for both the younger and older generations, particularly during times when traditional farming may not be feasible.

Sak is one of the younger brothers of founder Mit. He grew up with his brothers in their Karen hilltribe village in Chiang Dao. Having grown up in the jungle, he is very knowledgeable about the rainforests and always shares this natural lore with our guests. He has been a trekking guide for many years and his great sense of humor makes every trek a fun experience.
Yod is one of our youngest and newest guides, hailing from a Karen village in Doi Inthanon. He has been with us for over a year while working to achieve his trekking license. Yod is a favorite of families that have kids as he always has everyone laughing at his antics and the games he creates along our trails, using all that nature has to offer as a tool for fun.
Det is the youngest brother of Sak and founder Mit. He naturally followed in the footsteps of his older brothers as tour guiding opened up a lot of doors for him. He is a licensed guide not only in Chiang Mai but other parts of Thailand too. Like all our brothers, Det has a great sense of humor and lots of knowledge to share with everyone along our trails. He makes everyone feel comfortable and well taken care of, and he is also a great cook!
